Matchday 2 game 1

Korea vs Greece.

Greece are looking somewhat ponderous at the moment, no real movement through the midfield and the pace of my 82 year old nan. Definitely struggling with the pace and organization of the South Koreans and are looking very susceptible to the counter attack. Very much enjoying watching the South Koreans at the moment. It's a cliche to call them well organized and quick (both of which are true) but really good to see the variety of play they're capable of, played some long balls into the front men, played down both flanks and through the channels, nice change of attack. They've forced the Greek back four to play really quite deep as their lack pace is a real problem. The first half of this game makes me think the Koreans could have given both France or Uruguay a fright yesterday.

Hoping for more goals in the second half, and unless Greece really step up in this second half and come up with some kind of invention through the midfield I think their world cup maybe short lived. For the Koreans, a second goal eases the pressure and allows them to slow the tempo a little, not sure they can keep the current tempo up for the full game. They seem to have come on from the Hiddink Korea of 2002

Final whistle goes in Port Elizabeth, South Korea more than worthy winners, a lovely taken goal from Park JiSung made it comfortable, but the scoreline did flatter Greece somewhat, a four goal win wouldn't have been out of the question. Korea definitely have enough in the footballing locker to make it to the knockout stages. Greece looked turgid, staid and painfully. Certainly they looked old and one paced. 2 more games and it's home time I suspect. The Koreans were bright and played intelligent football, a couple of missed opportunities to spread the ball wide with an overlap but they looked comfortable and seem to be able to absorb pressure. I don't think they'll have a lot to fear from a Nigeria that are a shadow of their former selves.
